The Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi) at the University of Münster is looking for an internationally recognized scientist from the computing or geo-sciences, with a technical research focus. Teaching duties include core technical courses in our BSc Geoinformatics (which can be taught in German or English) as well as advanced courses in our MSc Geoinformatics and MSc Geospatial Technologies programs (both taught in English).

Applicants need an excellent PhD and a record of research and teaching demonstrating their potential in an innovative field contributing to Geoinformatics (Geographic Information Science). An initial contract at the W1 salary level will be for three years, to be extended for three more years after a successful mid-term evaluation. Candidates will be able to apply for tenure at the W2 level. If the necessary record of research and teaching excellence has already been achieved at the junior (assistant) professor level or through habilitation, and the ability to acquire and manage external funding has been proven, a direct hiring at the W2 level is possible. The research record can also have resulted from work in industry or government.

Among the applicants of equal qualifications and equal, position-relevant skills, female and disabled candidates will be given the preference unless other candidate-related reasons prevail.
Applications with complete CV, degree certificates, publication and course list, as well as a sketch of research and teaching plans are requested by January 17th, 2010. They should be sent in the form of a single PDF file to the dean of the school of geosciences, Prof. Dr. Hans Kerp, at dekangeo@uni-muenster.de. Any professor at the Institute for Geoinformatics can be contacted with informal inquiries about the position.
